There’s nothing more exciting (and a little bit scary) than preparing for a new baby. From picking out the perfect nursery to stocking up on all the essentials, there’s a lot to do!
One of the most important things you can do is ensure you have everything you need for those first few weeks at home with your baby. Here’s a list of newborn essentials to help you get started.
A Moses Basket
Let’s start with the basics, shall we? A Moses basket is a great option for newborns since they can sleep in it until they’re around 3 or 4 months old. You can find them at most baby stores or online and they come in a variety of styles and colours.
Moses baskets are on our list of essentials because they’re lightweight and portable, making them perfect for taking from room to room or even out and about with you. Plus, they look really cute in the baby’s nursery!
A Baby Monitor
A baby monitor is an absolute must-have for any new parent. It gives you the peace of mind of being able to hear (and see) your baby even when you’re not in the same room.
There are a lot of different types of baby monitors on the market, so it’s important to do your research and find one that best suits your needs. We like video monitors because they allow you to see your baby, but there are also audio-only and even smart monitors that you can control from your phone.
A Changing Table
This one is pretty self-explanatory but definitely worth mentioning! A changing table or pad will make that middle-of-the-night nappy changes a lot easier (and less messy). You can find them at most baby stores or online.
A few other things you’ll need for changing time are nappies, wipes, diaper rash cream, and a trash can (for those inevitable accidents).
Sleepsuits & Onesies
Sleepsuits and onesies are a must for any newborn’s wardrobe. They’re simple, comfortable, and easy to change. Don’t forget that sleepsuits have different tog ratings, so make sure you get some for summer and some for winter!
You’ll also need some socks and booties to keep baby’s feet warm, as well as a hat if you’re going to be spending time outdoors.
Bath Time Supplies
Next on our list of newborn essentials are bath time supplies. You’ll need a baby bathtub (preferably one that you can use in the sink or bathtub), a hooded towel, baby shampoo and body wash, and a soft washcloth.
And of course, you’ll need some toys to make bath time fun!
A Breast Pump (if you’re breastfeeding)
If you’re planning on breastfeeding, a breast pump is a good idea to have on hand. It can be used to relieve engorgement, stimulate milk production, or even store milk for later use.
A Stroller
Last but not least, a stroller is a must for any new parent. It’s perfect for walks, trips to the park, and even running errands.
When choosing a stroller, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, decide if you want a traditional stroller or a travel system that includes a car seat. Second, think about how much you want to spend. And finally, decide what features are most important to you.
Do your research and read reviews before making your final decision.
In Summary
These are just a few of the newborn essentials you’ll need to prepare for your new arrival. Of course, every family is different, and you may need (or want) other things as well. The most important thing is to be prepared and have everything you need so you can enjoy those first few weeks with your new baby!
